Fernando's Vision for Fresno
Listening First, Leading with Heart
Fernando believes that the most important job of a City Councilmember is to listen. He will always put the voices of residents, families, businesses, and communities first. When decisions come before the Council, Fernando will vote with his conscience and with the needs of District 3 in mind. He knows that the people who live here are the true experts on what works and what does not.
His promise is simple: to listen, to learn, and to lead with the community’s best interests at heart. By keeping an open door and making sure everyone feels heard, Fernando will make City Hall more responsive and more accountable. Good leadership starts with listening, and that is the kind of leadership Fernando will bring to District 3.
Public Safety and Strong Neighborhoods
Every family should feel safe in their home and their neighborhood. That means making sure our law enforcement officers have the tools, training, and support to protect and serve the community. It also means working together to build trust between residents and those who keep us safe.
One of the biggest concerns people share is how long it can take for 911 calls to be answered and help to arrive. Fernando will work to reduce wait times so that when you call for help, someone answers right away and responds quickly. Safer neighborhoods make stronger families and healthier communities, and Fernando will keep public safety a top priority.
Supporting Small Businesses
Small businesses are the backbone of Fresno. They create jobs, support families, and give life to our neighborhoods. But too often, starting and running a business feels like fighting through a maze of rules and paperwork. Fernando believes it should be easier, not harder, to open and grow a business in Fresno.
He will work to cut unnecessary red tape, make the process simple and clear, and support entrepreneurs who want to invest in District 3. When small businesses succeed, the entire community benefits with more jobs, more opportunity, and more pride in the place we call home.
Fixing Roads and Infrastructure
Anyone who lives in District 3 knows our roads and sidewalks need attention. Too many streets are full of potholes or cracks, and too many sidewalks are unsafe or hard to use. Fernando will work to make sure Fresno builds and maintains high-quality roads, sidewalks, and walkways that residents actually want.
That means listening to the people who live here before making changes. Too often, bike lanes or complicated intersections are added without asking the community if that is what they want or need. Fernando will make sure improvements are made the right way, with input from residents, so that everyone can get where they need to go safely and comfortably.
Clean and Beautiful Neighborhoods
Everyone wants to live in a clean, welcoming neighborhood. Fernando believes that means making sure streets are free of trash and illegal dumping, improving street lighting so families feel safe walking at night, and keeping our public spaces in good condition. Clean, well-maintained neighborhoods help residents feel pride in their community.
He will also work to create partnerships that bring neighbors together for clean-up days and community projects. When we take care of our shared spaces, we create safer and stronger neighborhoods where families want to stay and grow.
Parks and Recreation
Parks are where kids play, families gather, and communities come together. Fernando will fight for well-maintained parks, safe playgrounds, and green spaces in every part of District 3. Parks are not just about recreation. They are about health, happiness, and community connection.
Fernando believes every family deserves access to a clean and safe park within walking distance. He will push for more investment in parks and recreation programs that give children a safe place to play and give adults and seniors a place to connect and relax.
Youth Programs and Mentorship
Young people need opportunities to grow and succeed. Fernando knows that when we invest in youth, we invest in the future of Fresno. He supports after-school programs, summer jobs, and mentorship opportunities so youth in District 3 can learn, build skills, and see a bright future right here at home.
By expanding leadership and mentorship programs, Fernando will help give young people a seat at the table today, not just tomorrow. When youth feel supported and valued, they are more likely to become leaders, entrepreneurs, and community builders for the next generation.
Seniors and Families
Many families in District 3 are caring for both children and aging parents. Fernando believes city government should do more to support seniors and the families who care for them. That means safe sidewalks, better street lighting, and accessible transportation that makes it easier for seniors to get to the doctor, the grocery store, or a community center.
He will also work to expand programming in community centers so that seniors and families have places to connect, learn, and stay active. When we take care of our seniors, we honor their contributions and strengthen our families.
Responsive City Services
When residents call City Hall, they should not get the runaround. Fernando will work to make city services easier to access and more reliable. Whether it is fixing a broken streetlight, clearing a dangerous sidewalk, or answering questions quickly, residents deserve a city government that responds.
Fernando will push for better communication between City Hall and residents. That means clear information, simple ways to get help, and follow-up to make sure problems are solved. A city that listens and acts builds trust with its people.
Housing that Works for Families
Every family deserves a safe and affordable place to live. Fernando believes new housing should fit the needs of District 3 residents. That means building homes that working families can afford and making sure development respects the character and values of the community.
He will support housing that is balanced, affordable, and well-planned. By listening to residents before decisions are made, Fernando will ensure that housing in District 3 strengthens neighborhoods instead of pushing people out.
