Meet Fernando

Fernando Alvarez was born and raised in Southwest Fresno, where he learned firsthand the values of hard work, resilience, and community pride. The son of immigrant parents who came from Mexico in search of the American Dream, Fernando grew up helping his family build their small businesses and worked in the fields as a teenager. Those early experiences gave him a deep respect for the struggles and determination that define Fresno’s families.

At just 21 years old, Fernando was elected as one of the youngest school board trustees in Fresno County history, serving the West Park Elementary School District. In that role, he helped guide district policy, support student achievement, and ensure that families in his community had a voice at the table.

Fernando later served as Government Affairs Specialist at the Fresno Chamber of Commerce, where he worked closely with business leaders, elected officials, and community stakeholders to shape policy on issues ranging from transportation and housing to education and economic development. He also helped design and relaunch the Chamber’s Young Entrepreneurship Program, connecting local students with mentorship and resources to turn their ideas into opportunities.

Despite these accomplishments, Fernando has never sought the spotlight. He has always believed that the best progress happens in silence — that being effective means doing the work, not chasing attention. For years, he has focused on connecting people, supporting new ideas, and making sure others had the tools and opportunities to succeed.

Now, for the first time, Fernando is stepping into the public eye to launch his campaign for Fresno City Council. This moment represents a big step — from working quietly to making his voice heard citywide. His campaign is rooted in the same values that have defined his life: Westside excellence, opportunity for all, and the belief that when neighborhoods like Southwest Fresno and Downtown are given their fair share of resources, the entire city grows stronger.
